If you’re a fellow Lifetime kayak owner, you might be wondering:

What are the best Lifetime kayak accessories I should have?

So, I sat down and did my best to think of the top Lifetime kayak upgrades and gadgets that my fellow paddlers would find handy. It was quite a process, let me tell you that. Anyway, I compiled them all here in this guide.

You might already have some of these, while some are the “you-never-knew-you-needed-it” sort of deal.

Lifetime Kayaks: A Brief Introduction

Lifetime kayak on the river bank

Before we dive into the world of Lifetime kayak accessories, I wanted to say a word or two about this top-notch kayak brand.

You know – just to set the tone and foundations for further discussion.

Who Are They?

Lifetime was born over three decades ago, in 1986, in Utah. Even though its journey didn’t start with paddling sports – no, seriously, it began with basketball – this brand is now known as one of the best kayak manufacturers today.

So, when did the shift to water sports happen?

Well, Lifetime acquired Emotion Kayaks in 2011, and since then, they have perfected the craft of designing and manufacturing high-quality, light-weight and price-conscious vessels.

There’s a good reason why they are considered one of the top brands in the market – their kayak research and design team is comprised of well-known names like Tim Niemier, Tom Eckert, and Tom Strauss.

Do Lifetime kayak accessories last a lifetime

Okay, if you would pardon my attempt at a pun, Lifetime kayaks are built with durability in mind – and with proper maintenance, yes, they could last you a lifetime.

Speaking of durability and longevity, it might be worth noting that they are constructed with high density polyethylene plastic and all Lifetime kayaks are backed by a five-year warranty.

What Do They Make?

Lifetime kayaks are famous for designing and manufacturing top-notch water sports products:

  • Paddleboards
  • Sit-on-top and sit-in kayaks
  • Single and tandem kayaks
  • Fishing kayaks (these are such a big deal that I’ve dedicated a whole section – Lifetime fishing kayak accessories – to it)
  • Youth kayaks

Are Lifetime Kayaks Made In The USA?

Yes, all Lifetime kayaks are made in the USA, more precisely – in Clearfield, Utah. Their facility is known as the largest blow-molding manufacturer in North America.

5 Most Popular Lifetime Kayaks At A Glance

You know me; I’d never miss an opportunity to recommend some of my favorite kayaks to fellow paddlers. I have to admit, though:

Choosing only five Lifetime kayaks to list here was a tricky business.

There are so many models that stand out among the crowd – but these came out on top:

  1. Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100 Fishing Kayak – Exceptionally maneuverable and stable, the Lifetime Tamarack Angler is my cheap kayak of choice when it comes to stand-up fishing.
  1. Lifetime Triton Angler 100 Kayak – Another excellent pick for anglers, as it’s a highly functional all-around kayak despite its smaller size.
  1. Lifetime Beacon Tandem Kayak – If you like paddling with a kayaking buddy, then the Beacon Tandem Kayak is for you, with its two padded seats and plenty of storage space.
  1. Lifetime (Emotion) Guster Sit-Inside Kayak – A super-comfortable sit-inside model – and my recommendation for adventurers who like to tackle different bodies of water, and those into day touring.
  1. Lifetime Wave Youth Kayak – Last but not least, the Wave Youth Lifetime ‘yak is the best model that you can get for junior paddlers (kids 5 years and older).

If you’re yet to purchase a ‘yak, one of the five models mentioned above is worth giving a shot.

Essential Lifetime Kayak Accessories You’ll Need

Essential Lifetime Kayak Accessories

Before we go further, here’s a little disclaimer of sorts:

I organized these items according to their level of importance. So, on a scale of 1 (money down the drain) to 10 (super-useful upgrades), the Lifetime kayak accessories listed below are a 10.

And by that, I mean – they’ll undoubtedly help you unleash the full potential of your Lifetime ‘yak.

1. Paddle

AQUA BOUND Sting Ray Carbon 2-Piece Kayak Paddle

Now, I know that most Lifetime kayaks already come with a paddle, but there’s no point avoiding the elephant in the room:

They are a tad rubbish.

I own several kinds of paddles – and the Lifetime ones just don’t do it for me. I had to give them up after only a few uses because I didn’t like the grip or the overall feel.

Plus, they looked like they would snap in half every time I used them to push off – and that’s a big no-no.

But besides the actual kayak, the paddle is the most crucial part of your equipment. It’ll have the biggest impact on how you’ll perform on the water.

So, it’s imperative that you own a high-quality paddle.

My vote goes to the AQUA BOUND Sting Ray Carbon 2-Piece Kayak Paddle

This carbon-reinforced paddle is not only super durable, it’s engineered for virtually effortless strokes with a comfortable grip and mid-size blades that work well for any body of water. Plus, it comes in five sizes so that it’ll fit all paddlers out there.

2. Backrest

Surf To Summit Performance Back

Are you familiar with the sensation of back pain mixed with pins and needles – right before your legs start to go numb?

Yeah, it’s no fun.

The good news is that a day on the water doesn’t need to be synonymous with “uncomfortable” – even if your Lifetime ‘yak doesn’t have a seat.

I’m mainly addressing the Youth Wave crew here:

I know that this Lifetime model has zero back support. So, a backrest is one of the most crucial Lifetime Wave Kayak Accessories to consider.

A simple attachment like this one will make a world of difference comfort-wise.

On that note, the thoughtfully created Surf To Summit Performance Back is my favorite:

It’s compatible with any sit-on-top ‘yak and clips in place easily. The thermoformed foam-fabric combo provides excellent support for your spine and eliminates discomfort.

3. Satellite Navigation

GPSMAP 86SC Floating Handheld GPS

A satellite navigation device – also known as GPS – ranks right up there with other necessities for every Lifetime kayak.

Even if the weather is 100% sunny and clear, even if you’re going somewhere you’ve paddled a hundred times before, even if it’s only a short trip – you could still end up getting lost.

Don’t ask me how I know that; let’s just say that an unexpected layer of fog is no joke.

A GPS allows you to explore with confidence, knowing that you’ll always find your way back home. And what about being able to retrace your route and save that fantastic new fishing spot you found?

I bet you didn’t think of that one!

Garmin’s GPSMAP 86SC Floating Handheld GPS is the best choice for kayakers because it shows accurate GPS data, has useful G3 coastal charts, and provides detailed tracking history.

You can have a look at other satellite navigation units in my best kayak GPS review for more suggestions, though!

Must-Have Lifetime Fishing Kayak Accessories

Must-Have Lifetime Kayak Accessories

If you already have the essential Lifetime kayak accessories I’ve outlined above, let’s dig deeper – into Lifetime fishing kayak accessories.

Most of these will make your entire fishing experience a whole lot smoother – while also helping you increase your efficiency.

1. Seat

WOOWAVE Kayak Seat

I’ve covered back support in the previous section, but there’s a new problem:

That dull ache intensifies even more with longer kayak fishing trips – and the backrest doesn’t provide enough support. Not to mention the health consequences that poor sitting posture can have.

The most optimal support for your back while you’re kayak fishing is the right kayak seat, period.

For example, a new kayak seat is a great way to upgrade the base Lifetime Tamarack that only has a backrest cushion and a rigid, uncomfortable base covered in some foam – which honestly doesn’t do much.

The WOOWAVE Kayak Seat will give you that nice, cushiony feel and ample support with its superb EVA foam interior. The upper layer is made from 210D polyester that’s breathable and allows for quick drying.

What’s more, the four-way adjustable webbing straps at the front and rear help keep the seat secure. And best of all, it’s an excellent Lifetime Tamarak accessory since it’s fully compatible with it!

It’s not the only option, though. For other high-quality picks, you can check out my roundup of the best kayak seats!

2. Fish Finder

Garmin Striker 4

Even the best anglers will have their unlucky days. If you don’t want to go home empty-handed, it’s good to have a little something that will “nudge” you in the right direction.

And what says a good catch better than a fish finder?

I mean, the name says it all, folks:

This handy device uses sonar technology to scan the water and locate fish. Simple as that.

You can see it in action here:

See Bass, Catch Bass - Bass Fishing - How to Read a Fishfinder

Go with a fish finder with a detailed depiction of the data, like the Garmin Striker 4. This model offers near-photographic representations on its waypoint map, and yet, it’s operated by a couple of simple and intuitive buttons.

3. Trolling Motor

Newport Vessels NV-Series Electric Trolling Motor

As much as I’m a paddle-first kind of guy, I have to admit:

Motorizing your Lifetime kayak can have some advantages.

If you install a trolling motor, you’ll be able to cover more ground, which in turn means better fishing possibilities. You can travel further and focus all of your energy on catching fish.

That said, I recommend finding a model that’s not too loud, or you could scare away fish – and you’ll be back to square one.

The Newport Vessels NV-Series Electric Trolling Motor is a perfect example:

It’s optimized for quiet operation. Yet, it still packs enough power to transform your kayak into a fishing machine capable of covering long distances thanks to its eight speed levels – five forward and three reverse.

Refer to my best kayak trolling motor reviews if you’re looking for more options, though!

4. Kayak Anchor

Best Marine Kayak Anchor

Imagine the following:

You’ve found the perfect fishing spot, you’re ready to cast, and everything seems to be working in your favor… Until the wind turns you around.

There’s a solution, though.

With the kayak anchor securely attached to your ‘yak, you won’t have to worry about wind and current while you’re fishing.

On that note, I recommend the Best Marine Kayak Anchor

It’s made from rust-resistant galvanized iron and 40-inch marine-grade rope, which translates to durability.

Oh, and make sure to pair your kayak anchor with an anchor trolley. It’ll make it much easier to reposition once you’re anchored.

Think of an anchor trolley as an extension of your anchor line; it allows you to move to any point from the bow to the stern of your kayak.

YakGear Deluxe Anchor Trolley Kit

The budget-friendly YakGear Deluxe Anchor Trolley Kit is my go-to. It works like a charm, the construction quality is top-notch, and it’s super-easy to install.

Here, see for yourself:

5. Kayak Light

Kayalu Kayalite Led Kayak Light

If you’re planning to go kayaking at night, there’s an important rule you should follow:

See and be seen.

In other words, let others know you’re out there, anticipate things ahead, and act accordingly.

And how do you do that?

By equipping your Lifetime kayak with a kayak light, of course!

Check out the Kayalu Kayalite Led Kayak Light. It’s waterproof and submersible and will emanate USCG-approved white light without disturbing fellow boaters.

I’ve got some more recommendations for nighttime kayaking in my review of the best kayak lights!

Lifetime Kayak Rail Accessories

The real fun lies in the Lifetime kayak rail accessories that can be attached to the rails or poles.

Sounds like something you’re interested in?

Stick around, then. I’ve singled out six customization mods that will give your Lifetime ‘yak that personal touch.

1. Cup Holder

Yakattack MultiMount Cup Holder

I hope I don’t have to remind you, but staying hydrated on the water is incredibly important. No, scratch that:

It’s potentially life-saving.

And when we’re talking fresh, drinking water, or other refreshments, cup holders come into play. Not only are they convenient – but they can also prevent a disaster.

I don’t know about you, but I find puddles from spilled drinks on the deck downright annoying – not to mention that they can be a real safety hazard.

I liked the Yakattack MultiMount Cup Holder because it does exactly what it’s supposed to:

It stays firmly attached to your ‘yak and keeps any beverage at reach because it can fit different sizes of containers, from a regular water bottle to a can with a koozie.

2. Rod Holder

YAKATTACK Omega Rod Holder

If your Lifetime kayak isn’t decked out with any rod holders, or you need an extra one – and who doesn’t? – go for this upgrade.

Even if hands-free fishing is not your style, a rod holder can come in pretty handy when you just wish to lean back and relax with a soda.

It’s inexpensive and oh-so-practical, and yet, it can often be overlooked.

The YAKATTACK Omega Rod Holder is my favorite because it’s so universal:

It is compatible with rods of all sizes and ‘yak rails of all sizes. Once mounted, you can rotate it 360 degrees to finhttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B0732CZW5T/?tag=watersportswh-20d that angle you need, while the secure locking mechanism keeps your rod in place.

3. Paddle Holder

RAILBLAZA QuickGrip Paddle Clip

Have you ever tried paddling all day in sub-zero weather?

I can tell you one thing:

It won’t be a walk-in-the-park type of experience.

A paddle holder will help you reduce the stress on your joints when you feel like you could take a break from all that swinging.

It also comes in handy when you’re kayak fishing and don’t feel like juggling a rod and a paddle simultaneously. I don’t know about you – but I sure don’t.

The RAILBLAZA QuickGrip Paddle Clip is hands down, the best choice for Lifetime kayak rail accessories.

It features a kayak-ready mount that can be mounted onto the majority of Lifetime kayaks, and it works with a range of paddle sizes – from 1-⅛ to 1-⅜ inches, to be precise.

4. Fishing Flag

YakAttack Fishing Visibility Flag

Remember what I said about “See and be seen”?

I’m trying my best not to be boring, but I’ll always be adamant that a safe kayaking trip is a good kayaking trip.

Well, pretty much the same principle applies to kayak fishing:

No Lifetime fishing kayak should ever be without a fishing flag, also known as a visibility flag.

Take a look at the YakAttack Fishing Visibility Flag:

It comes with the hardware you’ll need to mount it to any Lifetime kayak, and the included LED is built to last over 100 hours on 3 AA batteries. Of course, it’s waterproof, which is my number one requirement with any kayak accessory.

If you don’t already have this upgrade, what are you waiting for here? Stay out of harm’s way by waving your fishing flag – as easy as that!

5. Fish Fillet Table

RAILBLAZA Bait Board & Large Fillet Table

So, you’ve spent the whole day fishing, and now it’s time for the not-so-fun part – the cleaning.

Some of us are naturally gifted anglers who can fillet fish with our eyes closed, and some of us are frightened and look as if we are about to perform surgery.

Can you guess which category I belong to?

In any case, whatever category you’re in, especially on a ‘yak, you’ll want a stable station to filet your fish – and a fish fillet table is a portable solution you’ll need.

The RAILBLAZA Bait Board & Large Fillet Table is as stable as it gets, with a raised front part that prevents spilling. Oh, and it doubles as a bait cutting board, too – how amazing is that?

6. Tackle Caddy

RAILBLAZA Track Mount Tackle Caddy

Nothing ruins your fishing gear faster than keeping it unorganized and unprotected.

Your flies, lures, bobbers, and swivels should all be neatly stored in a tackle caddy.

However, make no mistake:

A tackle caddy is not a tackle box; you’ll still need one if you want to organize everything into tiny compartments. The main difference is that a tackle caddy can store both tackle boxes and bigger items, like pliers.

Not only will this accessory help you keep all the things safely organized, but it will also reduce the prep time.

That means no more panic mode while you’re looking for the fishing accessories you need while simultaneously trying not to forget anything. You can just grab your tackle caddy and be on your way to the water.

The RAILBLAZA Track Mount Tackle Caddy will allow you to keep your fishing tackle tidy and accessible – with plenty of storage space. It has allocated slots for tackle boxes – two mid-sized ones will fit – binoculars, hooks, pliers, lures, and more.

Pretty neat – don’t you agree?

To Sum It Up

No matter whether you’re a beginner kayaker, an experienced angler, or a seasoned adventurer, I believe you agree:

Everybody could use a cool kayak upgrade… or two… or ten.

Hopefully, my list gave you some ideas for your Lifetime kayak upgrades. They’re there both for peace-of-mind reasons and for the added fun on the water.

From paddles and anchors to cup holders and flags, these Lifetime kayak accessories will allow you to personalize your ‘yak and get the most of every trip.

Happy kayaking!
